In this documentary without narration the family of Hong Sun Hui takes us through the daily life of North Korea, the country of the Beloved Leader Kim Jong Il.
In the textile plant where Hong works, all activities, behaviour and results are written down in notebooks. All control and all is controlled.
Others in Hong’s family are her younger brother, who studies English at public language lab. Surprisingly, we see here that North Koreans are human beings just like us. They joke (about Internet), feel ashame (about a mistake in the English language) and show sadness over military suffering. However touching and naive this may seem, the awe for the Great General is overpowering.
Even the quiet and gentle looking Hong, happens to be his faithfull follower in the end: it is her “duty to exterminate all American dogs on earth”.
And the children, including Hongs daughter, are taught right from their earliest age that “flowers need the sun, and they need the love of the Great Leader to grow”.
Happily the factory workers sing about him as their Great Great Happiness. From their faces we would guess that their feeling is happiness all over. Or is this simply propaganda beyond their will?
